    Summary

    This program seeks to :

    • develop a community based volunteer program that engages high school students to use social media to outreach and educate other community youth; 
    • expand an emerging adopt-a-block parcel program which involves recruiting volunteer leaders from the community; 
    • assist in the development of corporate outreach materials to attain funding matches; 
    • and have organized litter and dumping clean-ups.

    Volunteer leaders (Desert Clean-up Team) and BLM staff will work together to monitor the program, provide the template for volunteer work, and organize litter clean-ups.

    Additional Information

    The BLM seeks to promote youth partnerships within the Southern Nevada District. The BLM is interested in partnering with a recipient to provide educational opportunities and engage youth to develop civic minded skills focusing on awareness of litter and dumping problems.

    Historically, successful clean-up efforts were defined by volunteers providing labor, and local companies and organizations providing funding matches and equipment.

    Deadline Details

    Applications are due August 5, 2014, by 4:30 Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). 

    Award Details

    The estimated funding available for FY14 is $30,000. 1 award is anticipated. A funding ceiling of $6,000 exists for the first year of the project. A project period of 5 years is expected. A cost share of $1,500 is required.
