    Summary

    The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), Charter Center, is soliciting applications from eligible high-quality charter schools (HQCS) interested in significantly expanding or replicating. This program is made to provide federal financial assistance for planning, program design and the initial implementation of the significant expansion or replication of high-performing charter schools under an eligible charter local education agency (LEA) that has already received one federal Charter School Programs (CSP) startup award.

    Additional Information

    An eligible applicant receiving a grant under this program may use the grant funds only for:

    • Post-award planning and design of the educational program, which may include:
    • Refinement of the desired educational results and of the methods for measuring progress toward achieving those results; and
    • Professional development of board members, teachers and other staff who will work in the charter school; and
    • Initial implementation of the charter school, which may include:
      • Informing the community about the school;
      • Acquiring necessary equipment and educational materials and supplies;
      • Acquiring or developing curriculum materials; and
      • Other initial start-up costs that cannot be met from state or local sources.

    Deadline Details

    The deadline to submit a Letter of Interest was September 29, 2014.

    Signed and dated grant applications must be received by MDE (not postmarked) by October 27, 2014 at 4:30 PM Central Standard Time (CST).

    Award Details

    Up to $4,700,000 for SFY 2015 subgrant awards is available. It is the intention of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), Charter Center, to award multiple subgrants, ranging from $100,000 to $225,000 per subgrant.
