    Summary

Throughout the year, Target stores provide education grants to local K-12 schools to support educational field trips. Learning opportunities extend far beyond the classroom, but it's becoming more difficult for schools to fund trips to museums, historical sites and other cultural destinations. Since 2007, Target Field Trip Grants program has made it possible for millions of students to go on a field trip.

Target funds programs that allow students and teachers to learn in all kinds of settings. We fund field trips that connect students' classroom curricula to out-of-school experiences. Field trips must take place between January and the end of the school year (May or June).

The Target Field Trip Grants program is managed and administered entirely by Scholarship America. Scholarship America will evaluate applications and award grants based on the following criteria:
    • Applicant's description of the field trip and its objectives
    • Benefits to the students, including overall student learning experience, relevance to curriculum and number of students who may benefit from the grant
    • Proposed use of funds

    History of Funding

    Additional Information

Target Field Trip Grant funds are best used for visits to art, science and cultural museums, community service or civic projects, career enrichment opportunities and other events or activities away from the school facility. Funds may be used to cover field trip-related costs such as transportation, ticket fees, food, resource materials and supplies.

Recipients may receive a grant only once in a given school year. Grants are to be used to cover field trip costs and fees. In the event the costs and fees are less than the grant amount, the balance of the grant may be utilized for other education costs such as materials, books and resources related to the curriculum. Grants may not be used to supplant expenditures that are the normal responsibility of the school district (e.g. substitute teacher salaries).

Target does not make grants to:
    • individuals
    • programs taking place outside of the United States, U.S. protectorates or Canada
    • educational institutions for regular instructional programs
    • religious organizations for religious purposes
    • treatment programs such as substance or alcohol abuse
    • athletic teams or events
    • fundraiser or gala events
    • advocacy or research groups
    • capital or building construction projects
    • endowment campaigns
    • elected officials
    • organizations that do not comply with our non-discrimination policy
