    Summary

    The Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina empowers individuals, families, and organizations to make lasting impact through permanent, endowed funds for charitable giving. The Foundation serves nine counties in coastal South Carolina: Charleston, Beaufort, Berkeley, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, and Jasper. 


    Coastal Community Foundation runs two competitive grant cycles per year, with applications due in January and June.

    • Northern Lowcountry Grants
      • Griffith-Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year Award: A grant of $6,000 is made annually to a Charleston County visual artist, defined as a fine art sculptor or individual who works in oils, acrylics, watercolors, or pastels. The grant will provide funding to support the artist during the creation of a work of art that reflects or depicts the look and feel” of the Lowcountry.
      • Stanley B. Farbstein Endowment: This invitation-only program is aimed at preserving Jewish life and education in Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
      • Lowcountry Unity Fund: Mini grants of up to $5,000 are available to groups in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties for programs that support racial equity or address structural racism.
      • The Charleston JCC Foundation (CJCCF) Grant Program: This invitation-only program continues the work of the Charleston Jewish Community Center by providing funding for education, community relations, Jewish culture, and sports. Funding is available for organizations serving Jewish residents in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
      • Blackbaud Fund: Grants up to $10,000 are available to nonprofit organizations serving Berkeley, Charleston and/or Dorchester counties supporting special needs youth, as well as education for underserved youth. Applications are accepted beginning in mid-November, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m. January 15 or the next business day, if the date falls on a weekend.
      • Donors Choose Teacher Mini Grants: Grants are available in the fall for teacher-initiated classroom projects in our service area, as well as in Allendale and Barnwell counties. Teachers post proposals on the Donors Choose website and community members select which projects to fund.
      • Cooper River Bridge Run Grants Fund: Grants up to $5,000 are available annually to nonprofit organizations serving Berkeley, Charleston and/or Dorchester counties that promote health and wellness. The deadline to apply is January 15, or the next business day if that date falls on a weekend or a holiday.
      • REALTORS Housing Opportunities Fund (RHOF): Grants up to $5,000 are available in two cycles per year to nonprofits serving Berkeley, Charleston, and/or Dorchester counties that focus on affordable housing, including education, development or repair. Applications are accepted twice a year. The winter cycle begins in November, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m. January 15 (or the next business day if the date falls on a weekend). The summer cycle begins in April, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m. June 1 (or the next business day if the date falls on a weekend).
      • The Charles-Webb Ed Croft Endowment Fund: Grants up to $10,000 are available annually to nonprofit organizations serving Berkeley, Charleston and/or Dorchester County serving children with special needs.
      • Blackbaud Fund: Grants up to $10,000 are available to nonprofit organizations serving Berkeley, Charleston and/or Dorchester counties supporting special needs youth, as well as education for underserved youth. Applications are accepted beginning in mid-November, with a deadline of 11:59 p.m. January 15 or the next business day, if the date falls on a weekend.
    • Southern Lowcountry Grants
      • The Beaufort Fund
        • Genesis Grant: This grant supports strategic growth and/or expansion to increase the impact of a program that has already been proven successful. This grant may also support a project that addresses a community need in a new or creative way. Applicants may request up to $10,000 of support from this category.
        • Operational Grant: This grant is only available to organizations that have applied to The Beaufort Fund previously. Nonprofits may request up to $25,000 of support from this category.
        • First-Time Grant: This grant is only available to nonprofits that have not applied to the Beaufort Fund previously or have not received funding in the last five years. Nonprofits may request up to $15,000 of support from this category.
      • Winthrop Family Fund: This competitive program supports nonprofit organizations serving Allendale and/or Hampton counties addressing all charitable areas, with particular attention to education, health, and conservation/preservation of the built and natural environment.
      • N.E.W. Fund (Neighborhoods Energized to Win): This competitive program provides grants, leadership development and technical assistance to low and moderate-income neighborhoods in Charleston and Colleton Counties. Created in 1991, the N.E.W. Fund is designed to support self-sustaining community development, leadership, and pride within neighborhoods. Coastal Community Foundation encourages applications from both grassroots and 501(c)3 nonprofit neighborhood organizations. Priority will be given to organizations focused on the Fund's desired outcomes of strong and healthy families, safe and supportive neighborhoods, residential pride, active community participation and a belief in residents' power to shape their communities.
     

    History of Funding

    The Foundation has awarded a total of $81,200,150 in the past five years. Past recipients include the Unitarian Universalist Church (PASOS), Lowcountry Food Bank, United Way of Horry County, and the Charity Foundation.

    All applications are to be submitted through the CCF's online portal at: https://ccf.spectrumportal.net/Accounts/LogOn. From there, you can login and fill out the appropriate grant application. If you haven't registered before, allow up to two business days to process the registration.

    Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations in one of the following South Carolina counties: Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Colleton, Allendale, Hampton, Beaufort, Jasper, and Georgetown.

    Application deadlines vary by program and are typically due in either January or June. Refer to the foundation website for further information.

    Award Details

    Award amounts vary by funding program, but generally do not exceed $10,000.
