    Summary

    In 2019, Ohio House Bill 166 set aside funding for school safety and school climate programs and training. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • The support of school resource officer certification training;
    • Any type of active shooter and school safety training or equipment;
    • All grade level type educational resources;
    • Training to identify and assist students with mental health issues;
    • School supplies or equipment related to school safety or for implementing the school's safety plan;
    • Any other training related to school safety

    Note: Grant funding is not intended to fund items such as capital improvements, road construction, or electronic equipment.

     

    History of Funding

    $11,505,857 was awarded in 2021. $11,000,000 was available in 2022 and 2023.

    Additional Information

    Applicants must work or contract with the county sheriff's office or a local police department in whose jurisdiction they are located to develop the programs and training. Any grant awarded directly to a local law enforcement agency shall not be used to fund a similar request made by a school located within the jurisdiction of the local law enforcement agency.

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are Ohio Public schools, charter schools, educational service centers, STEM schools and schools operated by county boards of developmental disabilities.

    Deadline Details

    For FY2024, applications will be on a first-come-first-served basis. No applications will be considered after May 15, 2024.

    Award Details

    Approximately $6.7 million is available in 2024. Applicants may receive $2,500 or $4.50 per student, whichever amount is greater.
