The Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Foundation's policy is to promote exclusively religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes restricted to local giving in the nine counties of the greater San Francisco bay area. The Foundation has supported numerous charitable causes over the years, from supporting educational institutions to social services for the homeless, low-income housing, and religious, public, and private school education.

In addition, the Foundation does not fund sponsorships or fund-raising events such as dinners, walk-a-thons, tournaments, fashion shows, etc., or lobbying and attempts to influence legislation.
Eligible applicants are California non profit organizations. The Carl Gellert & Celia Berta Gellert Foundation has made grants to charities all across the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma)
Applications and proposals are encouraged throughout the year. However, due to the high submission of requests on or near the deadline day, only those requests received via online by Monday August 2, 2021 will be reviewed for completeness prior to the actual deadline date of Friday August 13, 2021.
A similar deadline is anticipated annually.
Award amounts vary. Awards have ranged from $5,000 to $100,000.
