Mitchell and Howard County Opportunity Fund grants are available to nonprofit organizations that serve to meet crucial needs in the areas of education and environment in the communities of Mitchell County and Howard County, Iowa.

The Mitchell and Howard County Opportunity Fund was established in 2001 by an anonymous donor with the intent of giving much needed financial aid to non-profit organizations in areas of Mitchell and Howard Counties of Iowa. This fund is a component fund within the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.
Awarded applicants are required to sign a Terms of Grant agreement which clarifies legal parameters for use of the grant; submit a Grant Report to show the results of the project and to show that all the funds have been spent as intended. (If the project takes longer to complete, the Community Foundation will consider a request to extend the Grant Report deadline.)
Eligible applicants must be one of the following:
Groups, clubs, associations, and organizations that do not fit the above criteria, but are seeking funding for a charitable project, are encouraged to consider partnering with a 501(c)(3) or government agency that can be a fiscal sponsor and apply on the group's behalf.
Applications are to be submitted between August 1 and October 31, annually.
Award amounts range from $500 to $4,000.
